St. Louis Bathroom Remodeling Cost (2024)

Bathroom Remodeling Is a Large Investment

As one of the leading St. Louis bathroom remodelers, I know how expensive bathroom remodeling can get, as well as the sticker shock that quotes can produce.

If money weren’t a thing, I’d continue doing what I do out of pure passion for residential remodeling.

However, the reality is that bathroom remodeling is a costly endeavor. When you combine the price of all materials with the cost of labor, you are met by a rather high sum.

It’s important to remember that remodeling is an investment. Your expenditure is not a sunk cost, but rather an invested amount. And as your home appreciates in value, so too does the investment that you have made.

This begs the question, what exactly are those in St. Louis paying to have their bathroom remodeled?

What Does the Data Say About Bathroom Remodeling Cost?

I have found that the most accurate collection of data regarding remodeling cost comes from Remodeling Magazine’s Cost vs. Value report.

While this report does not provide 2024 data because the year has yet to fully occur, we can extrapolate the data using 2023’s inflation rate of 3.1%.

In 2024, for a midrange 5×7 bathroom remodel, homeowners can expect to pay approximately $25,369. Midrange means in-between builder grade and luxury, whereas a 5×7 bathroom is the standard hallway bathroom size.

For an upscale master bathroom remodel, homeowners can expect to pay roughly $79,209. This figure includes the relocation of all fixtures, in-floor heating, and luxury features throughout.

What Bathroom Remodeling Prices Are We Personally Experiencing?

Our clients will often disclose to us the quotes that they’ve received from other remodeling firms here in St. Louis, and we are often shocked at what these firms attempt to get.

For a hallway bathroom remodel, it’s not uncommon for us to hear other firms trying to charge $35,000 to $45,000. We can perform luxury 5×7 hallway bathroom remodels for approximately $27,000.

As for larger master bathrooms, our clients have disclosed to us that firms quoted them at over $100,000. While every bathroom is different, we can perform a large, luxurious master bathroom remodel for roughly $75,000.

Why Is Bathroom Remodeling So Expensive?

I have covered extensively why bathroom remodeling is so expensive in my article here.

However, to summarize, bathroom remodeling is so expensive primarily due to the amount of labor involved. Further, the summation of all materials adds a substantial amount to the remodeling price as well.

There are a myriad of trades required to complete a bathroom remodel, all requiring multiple years if not decades of experience for a high quality finished product.

Some of these trades include: electricians, plumbers, tilers, drywallers, rough carpenters, and finish carpenters.

Additionally, building material components such as a waterproofing system, shower glass, toilet, tile, and vanities all come together to create a hefty price tag.

It’s Getting Late, Let’s Conclude

There are many remodeling firms here in St. Louis that are more appropriately classified as sales organization.

We recommend reaching out to a smaller, design-oriented remodeling firm for the highest quality and most affordable option.

Bathroom remodeling is an expensive endeavor. However, it’s important to remember that remodeling is an investment and not a sunk cost. In fact, it’s one of the few investments that you get to live in and enjoy while it appreciates in value.
