What Goes Around Comes Back Around

Disclaimer: Recoup rates in no way shape or form affect Homestar Design Remodel’s pricing structure. We do not charge more knowing that you may recoup some of your investment.

Thanks to Remodeling‘s 2020 Cost vs. Value Report, we are able to get an idea of how much of your remodeling investment is going to be added to your home’s value. It’s important to keep in mind that the following percentages do not take into account the emotional value that remodeling your home creates.

The following values relate to St. Louis, MO.

A family that decides to undertake a minor, midrange kitchen remodel can expect to recoup 62% of their investment should they decide to sell their home.

A major midrange kitchen remodel carries with it a recoup rate of 54%.

Finally, a major upscale kitchen remodel comes with a recoup rate of 51%.

What about bathrooms? A family that undertakes a midrange bathroom remodel will get back 59% of their investment.

Upscale bathroom remodels offer 48% back.

As for window replacements, vinyl windows promise to keep 62% of their cost, whereas wood windows allow you to recoup 46% of their cost.

Last, but definitely not least, is the recoup rate for door replacements. A steel entry door carries with it a rate of 69%, and a fiberglass grand entrance will carry a 54%.

It pays to be mindful of the fact that a homeowner’s net cost of remodeling is not the list price of the remodel, but rather the recoup rate multiplied by the list price.
