Is During A Kitchen Remodel the Time to Replace the Kitchen Window?

We encounter this question a lot with clients. We are guiding them through the kitchen design process and inevitably we get to the window that lies behind their sink. And so, they wonder. Do we need to replace the kitchen window now or later?

Truthfully, it’s up to the client. We strongly advise replacing the window at the same time that you are doing the kitchen remodel though. This allows the window installer to be able to work in the best setting possible. Wall cabinets are taken down so as to not impede the sides of the window during installation. Base cabinets are also hauled away so that the installer can easily work up against the wall.

It’s likely that your kitchen designer is also a supplier of windows. Such is the case with us. This means that you already have a professional on reserve with measurements in hand. They can coordinate the window design with the design of the kitchen, resulting in the best possible design outcome.

All that being said, you don’t need to replace the window just yet. Window replacement can always be done after the fact. You do risk scratching up the sides of your new cabinetry, or even scratching the kitchen faucet assuming the window is in-line with the sink. This risk is only greatly present, however, if the window installer is of subpar quality.
